In China, punching or slapping someone is extremely ill-advised because under Article 234 of the Criminal Law, any act causing harm — even minor bruising — can result in up to 3 years' imprisonment if it leads to "minor injury" as defined by medical certification. If both individuals touch each other, police often treat it as "mutual assault", prosecuting everyone involved. Compensation claims can balloon if injuries are documented, so people avoid contact to prevent escalation into a legal nightmare. Even if it is determined no injury occurred, the Public Security Administration Punishments Law covers "disturbing public order", with fines up to 500 RMB or 15 days' detention. But spitting does not qualify under either law, so you get scenes like this when two Chinese get into an altercation.

>>10430 Pretty sure that spitting is regarded as assault (Tätlichkeit) here.
>>10431 Correct, honestly can't think of a country where this wouldn't be considered assault.
>>10434 There are other Chinese laws that spitting on another person could reasonably fall under, but they result in lenient sentences like a couple of days in detention or mandating written apologies. Not something most people would lose sleep over.
Lol in Austria its the opposite we have Raufhandel paragraph where more lenient sentences are given if both parties are at fault.

I need a document for my tax declaration. I already got it twice but I can't find it. I got it as a stupid sharepoint link but I cannot find where the fuck I saved the contents or what the file names are. I can't find it on any of my computers, nor my cloud storage. It's over. I cannot request this document for a third time. They'll think I'm a retard I am .

I'm beginning to suspect that I saw the email and simply registered "ok, got it" instead of actually downloading it. But I think I did see what's inside. So I must've opened it somehow. Am I losing my mind?

I fucking hate it when videogames get halberds and pikemen wrong. Civilization 5 and Stronghold do that. Not only do they literally call halberdiers pikemen, they also settle them in normal middle age when in fact they came in 13th and 14 century. On top of that, real pikemen came even later than halberds at as early as 14th century. Imbecile game devs ...

Will receive this beautiful figure kit tomorrow but I'm torn on how to assemble and paint it. One one hand, the version with the gugel/felt cap with the feathers is the iconic look of the Swiss soldiers of that period. On the other, with the German sallet he looks a bit more warlike. Very excited to get started either way.

It appears there is now some really strong evidence of life having existed on Mars at some point. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-025-09413-0

Or they are communicating in a way we can't detect.
>>10411 The most likely preceding candidates for the Great Filter have been abiogenesis (possibly disproved by this new Mars discovery), and transition from Prokaryotes to Eukaryotes. The latter possibility has also been put into question by the discovery of this unicellular organism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parakaryon So the probability of the Great Filter being in the future has risen. An alternate possibility is that life on both Mars and Earth shared the same origin and were spread to one or the other via asteroid bombardment ensuring inter-planetary pollination with the resulting debris. That would allow life on Mars to still be consistent with an extremely low likelihood of abiogenesis.

Tone is difficult to convey in written text, yet fundamental in spoken language. People generally tend to read any given sentence as much more aggressive than the author intends. At the same time, we live in an environment where almost any discussion you have with another person, serious or otherwise, is governed first and foremost by the framework of there being a winner and a loser. And you don't wanna be a loser, do you? so you have to claw back to emerge victorious. Most of the time people don't really have serious or consistent beliefs about anything in particular, but when discussing things will fall into a position and then try to defend it to "win" and at that point it doesn't even matter if they know, care, or even agree with what they're saying. It's all about not getting owned.
I love Bernds too much to be mean, this place is pure love so far.
>>10376 LOL, he loves unwashed fat nerds (me), the homo.
>>10370 >Tone is difficult to convey in written text true, that's all the practical guides to business communication tell be extra polite in business emails and texts. serious, proven by my experience that an innocuous phrase may sound extremely rude if you don't 'please' or 'could you' here and there

Bernd, do you think a new World War is coming? Quite a number of countries currently seems keen to repeat all the mistakes that happened before the last two

>>10300 nukes are surely a big stopping factor. but! (whose butt? :DDD) at the current juncture the China / Russia's idea is to make the US dominated world look undecisive and impotent. fait accompli like invading Narva or Latgalia under some pretext, and then threatening with nukes, will make NATO have to decide if they are ready for a nuclear exchange dependent on some Eastern European city nobody heard about. >>10303 this whole concept is about the rivalry between a new power and an old power in terms of EU Germany is still a rising power the even this idea: the EU rivalry for migrants is about who gets the domination economically in the coming decades >>10307 tx, it is better >>10309 as they say, there's no use in a map with 1:1 scale. models help to grasp some idea. and here it's about older brother rebelling against his father: will he do it? will his siblings support him? will his neighbours?
>>10282 >Present ruling power: UK and France wtf
>>9564 >Bernd, do you think a new World War is coming? I could imagine several local hotspots escalating into war somewhat simultanously, like India/Paksitan or China/Taiwan. But I doubt that Europe could be pulled into another war, simply because of the lack of willing soldiers.
>>10323 >and here it's about older brother rebelling against his father: will he do it? will his siblings support him? will his neighbours? But it's doing that by creating a narrative and ignoring the wars that go against it. Most of those 'rulling powers' were not ruling powers and they had been at war with the 'rising power' countless times before that point and countless times after and if you go into the cause for the war it's nto due to what they say it is. It's arguable that WW1 might have been such a case as the Germans and Austro-Hungarians saw Russia industrialise and were worried if they didn't act then they would not ever get the chance, but not others.
>>10386 mate, the rivalry thing is as old as at least Rome vs. Carthage but sure, it's just one overly simplistic way to look at wars. ofc there are other factors and angles of how to look at the problem. >It's arguable that WW1 might have been such a case as the Germans and Austro-Hungarians saw Russia industrialise usually it's construed in a different way: Germany as the late one of the European powers to unify and to start the colonization conquest didn't have a chance to conquer much - hence they wanted to fight Britain and France to re-divide the world for a bigger share of influence

Dezi is still a freeman. I was turned away from the forest by cops in army camo and told to piss off back to the city and that if I shot him I'd be arrested, charged and lose my guns and gun license instead of getting the million dollars. But obviously they are going to end up shooting him anyway.
