de Bernd 2025-08-23 13:23:56 Nr. 6633
Do you tip at restaurants, Bernd? If so, how much? I think 10% was always normal in Germany, but in recent years I feel that more is expected like 15 or 20%. I always die of shame when I eat with someone who doesn’t tip.
It's not normal to tip in Australia. I think. Some businesses will have a card reader that has an option to tip, you can select 10% or whatever but I never do and I don't think it's expected that you do.
>>6633 >I think 10% was always normal in Germany No, it was not. I tried to tip at a local Flammenkuchen restaurant once and they were like "no-no, don't do this". Every time I eat out with anyone of my friends, nobody tips. I have literally never seen anyone tipping. Mandatory tipping belongs to the hellhole of USA, where the state does not protect the rights of workers. And even then, I'd rather tip the kitchen, not the fucking waiters for walking 10 meters with a tray.
Tipping is not a part of the kültür here
I round up to an even sum
>>6640 What's the minimum you round up? I feel bad rounding 39.70 to 40, for example and prefer to not tip at all then.
I always tip 50%, but if its a restaurant, barber shop, uber driver, or they have a tip jar I tip 100%.
>>6637 It is normal in Germany. What the fuck are you on about? A couple of months ago I forgot to tip in a cafe and the waitress treated me very badly afterwards.
>>6641 I would give 40 in this case. Depends though, once a Taxi driver helped me haul new electronics from the Brack Abholcenter in Willisau to my new flat and he only wanted a 20 so I gave 50
>>6644 Yeah, 5-10% is what I have learnt growing up in Germany. If the numbers are weird, I'd even tip more. Let's say, your bill is 3.55 or so. Would you give 3,90? Nah, 4€ it is for me.
Tipping is for when someone does something helpful for you that isn't in their job description. I'm not going to tip anyone for doing their job like they're supposed to. That's just ridiculous.
>>6790 In Germany waiters get paid so little they’re dependent on the tips
>Do you tip at restaurants, Bernd? Only if the service is really good. Otherwise: no.
>>6791 It was USA tier t. other
>>6801 Wages in Germany aren't USA tier. They're shitty, but not "you will literally be homeless and starve to death" tier. Therefore, tipping is lower as well.
Tipping is just like haggling, only mentally brown races can tolerate let alone practice it Your pay is your salary as defined in your contract - that's it, end of
>>6817 >le ebin racism Weird how most of the brown world doesn't tip, yet most of the white world does.
>>6818 >most of the white world does that is hardly what the map shows
>>6819 Stop splitting hairs and acknowledge that what you said was racist and dumb. Or explain how Austria is more brown than all of Latin America.
>>6818 >tipping the taxi driver That's another retarded thing there. Why not just increase the fare if you want more money? Why complicate it with unnecessary mandatory tips?
what the fuck you are all a bunch of garchs I have never went to restaurants enough to even have any type of habits of tipping or not because I'm not a garch most I've ever been subject to was whether to tip the Wolt courier and I never do that because I'm fucking poor garchness overload in this ITT honestly
>>6822 That is the least fancy thing I ever heard.
>>6822 Back when Bernd was a student, you could eat at a restaurant for 15€. 20 for something fancy or if you drink a bit more. Do that every 1-2 weeks and you're looking at 50€ or ~10% of Bernd's monthly expenses back then. Why the fuck are you talking about "garchs"? Is eating out so expensive in Denmark or are you so dirt poor that you can't even spare 20€ for some quality of life every once in a while?
>>6822 For convoluted reasons I will not explain I was living in the wilderness for half a year and I couldn't be bothered cooking food at my campsite because I would have to clean dishes so I just got takeaway every day. Not sure if that makes me an Oligarch, it certainly doesn't feel like it...

>>6824 I live in absolute poverty and you are an oligarch, make dealings.
>>6830 Still not an oligarch. Do you know what the difference between a billion and a million is? About a billion. Do you know what the difference between a million and my net worth is? About a million.
>>6833 Your net worth is about 50k-100k minimum
>>7589 That doesn't make you into an oligarch. Owning a car and a kitchen puts you above 50k net worth.
>>7590 If you're a garch like you yes, us lowly peassants don't have cars and the cheapest kitchens possible
>>7593 Is that why you made the car hate thread? Are you jealous?
>>7595 No, I unironically believe cars are bad for everything and made this world more terrible. You can't imagine anyone not being a materialist prick who shits on everything else besides his own wellbeing, can you?
>>7593 I don't have a car either by the way, I'm just saying that 50k net worth doesn't make you into an oligarch. It puts you slightly above the median in Switzerland, and that's only if you ignore personal retirement funds (2nd and 3rd pillar).
>>7597 I said minimum, you probably have multiple hundred k
>>7598 I don't. If I count everything I own, then you're right with your estimation of 50-100k. Most of it is my retirement savings though.
I never tip and if tip is demanded of me I even make this an issue, I make a scene.
>>7601 That's one of the most Jewish things I read today, you're not looking good there being a stingy bastard
