At least you're trying. I'll bite, I can't tell if this is about continuity of identity or some kind of carpe diem, the first I think is much more interesting
People change, and some people can change a lot, but most will build pretty heavy psychological barriers once what they consider their identity is set in, so they'll think themselves the same person even if their actions are very different from what they expected years before, there's strong tendency to rationalize our actions and align them with that core personality, but only pretty successful people can drive their lives through the path directed by their super ego. So I think what's more important is who you are today, not who you were yesterday, if things are working out you shouldn't be too worried
On the other hand, I think if you're carpe dieming you're doing it wrong, sure it's nice to work on what you want every day, or just doing something that felt productive, you'll sleep much better, I guarantee it. But trying to squeeze all the juice of life experience can be in itself a constant demand that stresses you and lowers your life quality. Better to find that motivation that you have inside you and the good days will follow if you are honest enough that you adjust your ambitions to your capacities. The world is still plenty rich and with opportunities enough that you can carve yourself a cozy life you can be content with
