Plus the anonymity. In a normal forum, if you have a schizophrenic meltdown, people will remember that. On an imageboard you can be as weird as you can be and the next day you can make a normal thread without people connecting you to your past schizoposting.

I don't think there is a particular attraction to imageboards that is caused by the preferences of these groups. They just don't get banned immediately on them like they would everywhere else.
