The Americans are strange, they seem to have a religious view of their constitution and the people that founded their nation. I don't think anywhere else is like that aside from Communist China with Mao maybe.
But it leads to a dogmatic view fo the constitution where they view it as scripture and not what it actually is which is a tool to administer the nation. Constitutions can and should be scrutinised to better the nation.
But I also think they misunderstand it. The Second Amendment isn't what they think it is and it must be remembered what context it was made in. The US shared land borders with three Global superpowers and had one a war against the British in part due to their mobilisation of militia. When they are saying that a militia is needed for a free state this is in reference to the very real threat of the British, French and Spanish empires, it is not about fighting their own state.
Furthermore, it's irrelevant now that the USA doesn't border any threats and also the modern nature of war makes it irrelevant.
