Did some other tasks and explored the planet a little. Seems to start building on an SV, a large constructor is needed, which can be only build inside a land base or capital ship. So basically there's no way around a BA and with that, drone attacks, which means the whole thang has to be up and running in a rather short time to some degree and even more if there's no plan to abandon it. But it's nice to be trucking along a far to little scale planet orbiting a tiny solar system :3 After unloading some resources at the survival tents, I took off into the sunrise to finally tackle that abandoned base. The task - other than the official quest - is to de-core the POI and put down an owned core, this should basically take over the whole structure for easy scrapping or slapping down a few gun turrets to simply use it as is. The outside was guarded by mechs and... more flipped large raptors of regular size. Mechs had me retreating a few times tho, light armor just doesn't cut it really. A few dives into the depth of the base had me loot a heavy sniper, which is very nice, and a lot of supplies from storage. Once reasonably clear I moved the hover in to connect to its logistics while looting, had to relearn that strange system that I completely forgot about. Still finding stairs leading deeper...

The enemies are rather janky in all that voxel environment, but coupled with their behavior of screaming and running up to lean in for a bite, makes them kinda scary, but easily deal-able if one stays cool. A shotgun blast to the head and it's done. Later found a Zyrax minigunner while scrapping, the armed enemies do give more challenging enemies. Also found some nice loot! A heavy armor will be great for the next POI, outside the mobility of the light armor is nicer to stride the plains. Also moar weapons, especially the laser rifle is nice, need to research it for a steady stream of ammo tho. And finally back, ready to start that damn base to get further.

Finally, behold, a very teefed shitbox! Nice to be able to craft most everything until the resources for an advanced crafter are available. Also found some advanced resources while further dismantling the abandoned base, which was deemed too large and unwieldy to take over. Still a lot more to fetch there, should give a nice base for a mining SV to reach to the stars. Building something actually nice can take a rather extended time and is best done in creative mode to spawn in the blueprint in the actual game in a factory. I'd guess 5-10 hours for a nice small flyer and 15 to unlimited for an actual capital vessel, if the shitboxes shouldn't extend to space. Probably going for the classic Faye Valentine setup for the miner. Still needing some tech points and materials, so first some hunting and then another load of scrap.
I set up Richard Burns Rally with RSF for the first time It's incredible with a wheel and VR headset, it's surprisingly easy to drive rally cars

>>14835 Thinking about setting VR up for my flight sims, currently IL-2, but it will probably make me motion sick like crazy.
>>14871 Which IL-2 is that? I play 1946 (with BAT mod) with headtracking. It's certainly better than trying to move view by itself. I also played DCS and XPlane 11 on VR, but my headset is very old, and for planes I feel like I need more resolution. Works well for Assetto Corsa though.
>>14874 Battle of Stalingrad, I just got it on sale on steam. I have a meta quest 3 but thus far I only used it for porn games.
>>14871 Man I wish I could reason with myself to afford the hardware for all that, some games have to be absolutely bombastic with VR, thinkgen about Elite Dangerous or the such.

Forgot that the large constructor also granted access to a T2 core upgrade for the hover, which finally granted enough CPU power to actually make it work as intended. Then I pointlessly doodled up the thing that's gonna be ditched soon, still a nice and simple transport tho. Also completely forgot how much of a zoomies those hovers can be once all engines provide full power. Bernd had issues on inclines when loaded before, now he's jumping a klick with 150 km/h after skating up a mountain. Having to relearn creative mode as well from the start after nearly 400 hours in during the first stint. H for the creative mode, remember Bernd. Also seeing this table for the very first time, as I never looked around that base in creative mode, it does actually explain a lot. Also also listening to a tutorial video in the background, probably the same one from last time again. Seeing the provided transport in the creative base also has me lowkey jealous again, it's possible to construct such sleek designs with so very few blocks if you know how to use them... But it's all hard earned practice, some of the more prominent "workshop wharfs" probably pour hundreds to thousands of hours into their builds.
>>14896 Yeah just had a go, the motion sickness isn't as bad as expected and the headtracking makes navigation and enemy identification so much easier.
>>14871 You build up tolerance over time, by just playing (avoid extended use of high roll rates). >>14878 I get heatenings interacting with girls in VR, even if they're game NPCs. The furthest I went was looking at girls up close in Granblue Fantasy Versus' Figure Studio/training mode.

I HATE THE ANTI-SHAPES! I HATE THE ANTI-SHAPES! Man I knew it would suck to relearn the shapes again but just look at page 2 of it. Anywho... a space flyer! It sucks double to have to build it in gravity. It's also just another stepping stone to set up a preliminary space CV acting as an immobile base and factory to get everything together for the advanced constructor and then with some practice down, an actual first SV and CV can be build. Lots of new places to visit, planets and asteroids with new resources! Space stations are on the menu as well to finally get rid of some commodities.

Started learning OpenTTD more instead of learning fucking SHAPES. Had a nice network a few times now, but most often royally fucked up at some point. The first time I hit it with the classic "junction-too-close-to-another" into a technical KO. Other times I sneaked in wildly confusing station interfaces to have trains block them whole sideways, less is more. Now I slowly get a feel of it and tune to its logic, have a good feel how the latest network starts around St. Gallen, took me some time to figure out the lanes. Also it seems as I have some kind of night mode enabled from a past session. Not sure if this is helpful.

For the few times it's true, dark mode isn't very helpful in this game. Much more easy to layout correctly now, who would have thunk? Still more or less vibe signalling, but it's a lot better now. The attempt of a 4-way round-about was only a partial success, necessary bridges and tunnels can only be build perpendicular to the grid, once again, who would have thunk before...? It works for it's purpose and the nodes around Lenzburg, La Whatever and St. Gallen develop nicely.

Had a really nice network going but started over again due to too much vibe signalling and some mod issues, couldn't transport iron ore as I was missing the cargo wagons for it, had to grab OpenGFX+ for vehicle support with the industry mod FIRS. Anyway, some fish trawlers, trucks and slowly expanding train lines later another nice network is born. Much more streamlined in station design and some more careful junction design for easier and quicker setup. Then... I noticed I was using an outdated town growth script and started over... again! Fish, trucks and Peseux blessed us with all that steel production needs, so an isolated network was easily developed into a triangular golden shower. Then again, Kloten? Grow up, Switzerland. Don't! Money issues were no more. Again. Still fun seeing ones skill slowly grow in time, the game
I can't play OpenTTD anymore. Seeing the urban tumor take over the formerly green pastures leaving nothing but streets gives me anxiety.

Man, I sure had a few more nice networks going... And every time some issue popped up. The base city growth script was outdated and had to be replaced if you want to use mods, a few other issues and the last time the map just plainly didn't "feel" right when we're at it anyway. I really liked that early metal exploit with all those highly used separate networks and in the end even a dedicated brewery on the other side of the mountain. >>15708 This guy gets it. Once the little bits and doohickeys start to move and chain together, something just clicks with those simple and plain graphics. >>15703 In the name of the Omnissiah, witness my latest encroachment of this taint with clean metal and protective concrete, fleshsack.

Finally everything just werks. Cities growth by how much you provide transport to their economies. As brute station regularity also benefits, even small localized businesses get their fair share of stimulating concrete. Still looking for an opportunity to feed alcohol and goods into the system to really spur growth. >>15796 No, is it one of the Paradox line of games?
>>15800 No, I'm referring to the mother of all "city" builders, with unchallenged complexity. It's from an independent Slovak developer studio. https://store.steampowered.com/app/784150/Workers__Resources_Soviet_Republic/

Day two of being sick and playan' too much OpenTTD. Don't mind those purely aesthetic single lines serving no other purpose then spurring the local economy. Also Bernd FINALLY found a nice steel oven to centralize around, shrivel upon how I blessed this land with this multi-laned cargo yard! A city with steel works already got secured close by and there's tons of resources around, so soon we may finally send some goods trains to further encourage growth.

Thought I bonked myself when I made a local scrap drop off in Gössau instead of a pick-up one, but I can still supply Gössau itself with scrap from other cities and the steel mill chews through it just nicely. But this had me plop down unnecessary stations which then where made necessary as designated steel and resource lines supplying the mill. Isn't Gössau beautiful now? Look at all that vigorous GROWTH! Liestal meanwhile refines the steel into goods, which is then supplied locally and back on the steel line to Gössau as an exception. It just starts to interconnect and offer more options, all it needs is more GROWTH! The home hub is still doing fine and GROWING swollen and juicy, the genius of madness that build that 4-way-crossing is left unquestioned by the more conscious parts in my brain, it just werks too.

As the models of engines slowly went out of hand and newer models outclassed the older ones by double the speed, all old models got finally rescheduled for refit, now the whole network glides with 650 km/h like a lubed up gimp. Then there was the endeavor to provide food and more importantly alcohol to the good people of Gössau. A few ranches with fruit and lifestock nearby got hooked up with single lines and deliver right into a brewery and butcher, which then feeds single lines equipped with bypasses for multi train action right back into the heart of Gössau. Keep reaching for the rainbow, steel mill workers of Gössau. Wörk hard equals party hard! >>15915 We as lifeforms are but universal machines to find another way to increase complexity.
Bernd tried a round of openTTD a couple days ago. Managed to connect 5 cities via roads, tried to set up buslines. Gone broke before figuring out how to do so. Bernd got far to spoiled by modern UIs for such games sadly.

Breaking: First Train Crash! 2 steel trains collided while the designing engineer practiced unpaused vibe signalling under influence, leaving 4 people dead. Had to massively upgrade the steel line with double tunnels and more loading stations, but now it's the most active line on the whole network with a constant stream of trains transporting nearly the whole steel output to the factories in Liestal. >>15973 Road vehicles really find their purpose when playing modded and you have to connect as many industries as possible to spread everything around, but even here they probably bring in the smallest share in profits. Just use trains bro, no way around them.
Played some No Mans Sky for the first time after the update came out after I saw it recommended in this thread. Sunk over 50 hours in the matter of a few days into it, then grew suddenly extremely bored and uninstalled it. It was fun while all the things were new, but once the realization sets in that there is nothing really to explore and every planet is essentially the same with a different filter, it wore off quickly. Also started a permadeath savefile directly to actually feel something while playing, but being a completely new player I realized there were no real threats (aside of save-file deleting game bugs) to begin with. Tried to give it another shot with some mods that add more variety to the generation, biomes, entities you encounter etc but without luck. Thanks nonetheless for a couple of days of great gaming fun, after months of complete boredom with games.

>>15997 I pirated it at launch, bought it on sale a few updates in and had a similar experience, both times I fired it up actually. But if I had paid 60 Euros for the first time, I'd be very salty. And seeing all the updates since, I could sink another 50 hours into it. Hello Games done surprisingly well.
>>15997 Yea it is boring but i heard it is fun with friends in multiplayer.
>>15997 It's the kind of game that you need to play in episodes every few months before it gets extremely repetitive. Also heard it's extra immersive in VR. Frankly I prefer the X series for space sandbox shenanigans, but 65daysofstatic made the OST for NMS so I always had a soft spot for it.
I'm currently tying up all the loose ends before leaving Act 2 in Silksong. The game is just about now starting to overstay its welcome so I hope I'm like 90% through. Gives me Ashen Capital vibes from Elden Ring. Between playing Silksong I'm grinding away at Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and after I'm done with SS I'm probably giving Tower of Mask a go. It seems to be directly influenced by Legend of Grimrock and I loved both LoG games.
