Since there seem to be at least two other modelers, let's make a scale model thread. >what are you building? >do you have a focus topic? >are you 3d printing? I will post my humble attempts ever since I started again. Third attempt in 20 years, but now I'll probably stick with it. Every model I try something new, like pigments on the Schneider cannon and custom parts (handles made from wire instead of the horrible, horrible molded ones that were on the model). Right now I am building a deHavilland Tiger Moth, as mentioned in another post in the tank thread, which will be a first for (serious) RIGGING.
>>11420 This. For my T-34 I tried post-shading, which I thought looked pretty nice and already pretty obvious, but on pictures you can't see shit. And I don't want to go full boomer and drybrush everything.

>>11574 Paint, I lack the skill/patience to learn to do NMM.
>>11580 I doubt you lack the SKILL. I think it looks great.
>>11588 Thanks, I used the pdf on metal painting by Sergey Popovichenko as a guide, this guy is truly a master when it comes to painting and weathering medieval armour.
>>11591 You don't happen to have that book in digital form, nudge nudge wink wink?
>>11612 The PDF file is in my post.
>>11614 Fugg :-DDDD I only saw the Heinrich and didn't check twice. Thanks.
>You don't happen to also have ACW reference material? https://www.doc-jack-daniel.de/pdf-osprey.html
>>12651 Didn't know that site. Thank you very much Börnd :3
>>12653 Perry Miniatures also always come with great reference material in the box. They're really realistic for that small scale, not too comic-like and all handsculpted. I have their entire 1415-1429 and 1450-1500 range but they also have Franco-Prussian War, American Civil War etc.
>>12655 I know Perry, but those are all 28+ aren't they? I do 15mm, which is suffering, but I simply don't have the room for doing 28mm, despite them of course looking nicer.
>>12659 Yeah, unfortunately. I on the other hand wish they'd apply their handsculpt autism to even bigger figures which is almost all "soulless" 3D sculpts these days...
>>11522 Many shades of green :DDDD >>11612 Can I interest you in 5gb of random magazines / books? I could preselect to some books that I think are nice.
>>12903 >Can I interest you in 5gb of random magazines / books? NOOOOO DON'T TEASE MY HOARDING INSTICT LIKE THAT NOOOOOO Sure, hit me with everything you got. Unless it's a torrent because I don't torrent
>>12907 https://anonfile.co/m0CF2AVJWVoKcvN/file Try this. The abteilung and AK books are quite nice tbh.

>>11382 >AK Real Color I'm still fighting my Vallejo and Mig paints, about to make the switch to the AK lacquers next month when I have time to build a new setup on the balcony. Want to try some Eduard kits like pic rel and they're too good to mess up with my Vallejo crap. Spraying anything other than waterbased inside is unfortunately not an option because pets.

>what are you building? Currently an MRAP. >do you have a focus topic? Armor, mostly WW2 and beyond. >are you 3d printing? Yes, resin.
>>13407 What printer are you using? Can you give protips? On a whim I bought a Creality Halot-One plus, but so far didn't even manage to print a proper test print because shit would just stick to the bed.
>>13413 Anycubic Photon Mono m7 Pro. Are you using the recommended slicing parameters for the resin you use?
>>13424 >Are you using the recommended slicing parameters for the resin you use? Yes, at least what I could gather from the net. But I didn't buy some ultra super duper pro tier resin just to start out. It's 3DJake ecoResin. I thought I could do some cheap test prints to learn stuff (such as what the fuck to do with all that gooey residue) before I use something more expensive to print minis and parts and such.
>>13427 That's weird. So the print is sticking to the release film? What kind of model are you using for testing? One supplied by the manufacturer?
>>13451 I used that one fantasy testing thing with skulls and a beer keg and a sword. It's very small. There was none provided with the printer.
>>13453 Use AmeraLabs Town or Siraya Tech for troubleshooting. It's using different exposure settings. Have you levelled the build plate?
>>13454 (By Siraya tech I mean their test model: https://siraya.tech/pages/siraya-tech-test-model)
>>13454 >Have you levelled the build plate? Yes, everything is perfect. But thanks, I'll check out those. I think I could do cool stuff, but I don't want to get into a whole other hobby just to get a tool to work.

>>13457 3D printing is quite easy when you have found the right settings. I make my own 3D models and it was extremely hard in the beginning. Even minor issues with topology etc. can mess up the whole print.
>>13458 >I make my own 3D models and it was extremely hard in the beginning. lol I have so far tried to get into Blender like four or five times and it just wouldn't work
>>13462 Well, I am doing 3D modelling for like 15 years now. But making models for renderings or game engines is an entirely different thing. Trigons or flipped surfaces, for example, are most of the times irrelevant when importing your models into a game engine. But when printing they will most likely kill your print.
>>13464 > irrelevant when importing into a game engine Things seem to have changed in the past 15 years. I remember that it mattered with Microsoft xna, depending on the file format.
This is cool. Unfortunately it costs almost 5000€. ;_;

>>13623 Imagine the annoyance you could cause in the neighbourhood with an RC Stuka
>>13626 I remember some modeler forum where some dude built a 1:5 or 1:3 scale model of one to put in his backyard. It was also made of metal and welded together, and I think it was even a G.
Tamiya sells plastic RC tanks for a good 1k per piece. They have a rather big RC car department, so the combination between tank modellers and RC enthusiasts was just natural for them. I personally don't care for anything above 1:48, so I never got me one.
>>13624 I wish I had the necessary tools.
>>13630 It's always infuriating when you find some "diy" instruction how to build X and it's all >yeah so first turn a bunch of special screws with your lathe >then laser-cut the wooden parts >lastly weld everything together >for ornaments I used my home smelter to cast this stuff

>>11318 Made some good progress on the Messerschmitt, just got to clean up the canopy a bit and rig the antenna. Up until now I just used yarn, but I'm considering ordering this Uschi van der Rosten product for it.
>>14423 Damn that's a lot of planes. That said, have you ever tried stretched sprue? At least it's cheaper than that rigging line, though I heard good things about it.

>>14424 I did that for smaller scale longbow strings, the problem is that the Bf 109 E-4 antenna wire wouldn't look right if it's 100% straight and also needs these cone-shaped insulators to put the wire through with a small drill (according to a YouTube tutorial I'll try to replicate when I get around to it). Spitfires are so much simpler.
