you guys, know about that Cold war era idea of countries falling under the Soviet influence one by one so I've been thinking lately that this Trump's administration is doing the same in reverse towards Russia and China. to succeed in tackling the major problem of the current global rivalry you've got to have a step-by-step plan. naturally, they started doing this: - first Syria - then Palestine and Iran - now dealing with Zelensky - everybody understand that he has to go, and not in the sense that he doesn't want peace, but that he's just plainly incompetent - then will come Venezuela - then Belarus and Transdniestria - what's next? North Korea?
The US had little to do with Syria, Palestine and Iran, that was Israel and Turkey. He seems to be pulling back to the western Hemisphere. Also the white house released a defence review today/Yesterday where it said that it has to cultivate resistance within the EU. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/dec/05/civilisational-erasure-us-strategy-document-appears-to-echo-far-right-conspiracy-theories-about-europe
>>28962 >US had little to do with Syria, Palestine and Iran, that was Israel and Turkey sure, they use allies when possible >pulling back to the western Hemisphere so Venezuela is next but it won't happen as the world situation won't let the US go away >cultivate resistance within the EU well, that's outright bullshit in the sense that the US want to somehow destroy EU as long as NATO works and Europeans pay, nothing will threaten Americans here
>>28964 Syria was a Turkish initiative, Iran was an Israeli one. It's still unclear what he will do with Venezuela. I feel like even he isn't silly enough to try to occupy it, so he might just knock off Maduro and leave. The review says Europe is becoming un European and cracking down on freedom of speech etc, so they have to cultivate a resistance to get it back on track. It's stupid for multiple reasons, it's like he is doing his best to make the EU an enemy.
How to explain Trump actions towards Brazil under this theory?
>>28983 Isn't that solely related to Bolsonaro?
>>28985 No, I believe this is part of a bigger play, where Brazil is getting closer to Russia and China through Brics, is trying to set a competing currency for international trade, while at the same time mainly exporting coffee and soy to the US (and iron, soy, etc to China). But maybe I'm wrong.
>>28991 Are you glad you left Brazil behind for Israel?
>>28969 >he isn't silly enough to try to occupy it, so he might just knock off Maduro and leave that's the idea >he is doing his best to make the EU an enemy nobody is doing that. and do not mistake harsh rhetoric for an actual disagreement. US will press Europe to take more efforts in the security sphere. at least in this part of the world.
>>28983 >>28991 >>28985 I believe it's 20% politics against Lula and 80% an effort to drag Brazil from China
Palestine/Iran is a deeper and older issue. I'm lowkey convinced the US funds Israel because it keeps the region in a metastable state where no single local power can get too sovereign about their energy exports or trade routes. The current Ukraine position doesn't look nearly as strategic, unless acting like a weathervane is part of the plan.
>>28969 Britbongs don't have free speech though. Germans have more free speech if they avoid a certain topic.
>>29018 >Palestine/Iran is a deeper and older issue well, yeah. but Iran has been on the US radar quite recently as well - remember those B-2 bombings. >Ukraine position doesn't look nearly as strategic the Russia's idea was to snatch Ukraine in a quick bold move and re-create Russia + Ukraine + Belarus like quasi USSR of 200 mln with 85% Slavic population. a good idea in an evil genius kind of way. so that Russia could get back to being somewhat relevant as a global player. but the poorly planned and executed invasion botched the whole thing. Even if right now Ukraine totally falls into Russian hands, it'll be just a shadow of the idea with millions killed, wounded, and displaced, destroyed infrastructure, military equipment, etc.
